About the Whitevale Heritage Conservation District

The Hamlet of Whitevale, formerly Majorville, is a designated Heritage Conservation District. The community was first called Majorville, as John Major settled and built the first mill here in the 1820s. Donald McPhee opened a hotel in 1855. T.P. White later built a grist mill and further developed the community. The first post office was called Whitevale. The old mill pond, located north of the Hamlet, is now a regionally significant wetland. Former mill buildings (our Whitevale Country Store) remain along Whitevale Road.

The Whitevale Heritage District community is located within the City of Pickering in Durham Region, Ontario, Canada. The nature of the hamlet has not changed significantly in character since the late 19th century and the building style remains a mixture of typical rural Ontario vernacular architecture* combined with Victorian influences and materials in common use at the time of construction. This small unique community is surrounded by natural beauty and has been maintained and enhanced since its settlement in the early 1800’s. It is nestled in a rural setting and features modest rural homes and commercial buildings. Located along the banks of Duffin’s Creek and intersecting 5th Concession Road, Whitevale has protected much of the original Victorian-influenced architecture and retained all the charm and character of a small unique village, while making huge strides in maturing as a city.

The property that we have just bought is a commercial mixed-use property with 4 commercial units – 1 retail store, 1 restaurant/coffee shop, 1 professional Dr. office, and 1 office loft that has 5 rooms inside this office. Our current wholesale business, Ace, will be occupying all of those 4 business units.
